Southbay Ski Club

Welcome to the Southbay Ski Club. We are an incorporated, non-profit recreational/social club composed of a diverse group of people from around Silicon Valley. We are both downhill and crosscountry skiers, as well as backpackers, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. We are currently celebrating our 47th year of fun!

Click on the pictures to see a larger image. The Southbay Ski Club owns and operates a lodge, located at Soda Springs, CA in the heart of the Lake Tahoe/Sierra Nevada ski area. The lodge is located 1/2 mile off I-80 on a major, plowed, road near Donner Summit. You can walk to the Soda Springs Ski Area, and a free shuttle bus serving Donner Ski Ranch and Sugar Bowl stops about 100 yards up the road. The major Tahoe Basin ski areas are about a 30 minute drive away. Restaurants and a general store are within walking distance. The lodge is available for use year round. Besides the great alpine and crosscountry skiing facilities available during the winter, our lodge is a great base for hiking and other outdoor activities during the summer. Members and guests pay a reasonable fee for each night's use. The fees are used to maintain the lodge and pay for regular expenses such as firewood, propane, plowing and insurance. To help keep the fees as low as possible, each member is expected to donate one weekend during the summer towards lodge maintenance. Facilities include a common room with a huge fireplace and eating area; separate men's and women's bathrooms, each with hot showers; a ski storage area; and a large, fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove, microwave, and two refrigerators. All sleeping quarters are upstairs in three dormitory style rooms. Radios, televisions, pets, and smoking are not allowed. Evenings are usually spent sitting around the fire with a glass of wine, talking about the day's activities or reading a book. Maximum lodge capacity is 19 people but it rarely fills up. Reservations are made by phone or internet.

From Hwy 17, take the Camden Ave offramp and go East. After 1.5 miles the road splits into Hillsdale on the left and Camden on the right. Take the left fork (Hillsdale) and continue for 2.5 additional miles (4 total). You will see some strange red, white and blue things in the center divide and an overpass (Almaden Blvd)in front of you . Denny's is on the right just before the overpass. Social hour begins at 6:30pm and dinner is at 7. Meetings this year will be on the 1st Tuesday of each month from November to May. Hope to see you there!
