Setup for Internet Explorer 4 & Win98
The Following instructions are to be completed after the installation of Internet Explorer 4.
  • Click "Start"
  • Click "Programs"
  • Click "Internet Explorer"
  • Select "Connection Wizard"
    1. GET CONNECTED!!
      • Click "Next"
    2. SETUP OPTIONS
      • Select the Middle Option for an Existing Account
      • Click "Next"
    3. SETUP YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION
      • Connect using your phone line
      • Click "Next"
    4. This next screen may either ask for your access number or to create/use an existing connection. If you are asked for the phone number, skip this step and continue to #5. On the "DialUp Connection Screen", make sure that "Create a new connection option in selected.
      • Click "Next"
    5. Enter the Access Phone Number
      • Look on the worksheet provided by SurfnetUSA
    6. Enter your User Name & Password
      • Click "Next"
    7. ADVANCED SETTINGS
      • Select "Yes"
      • Click "Next"
    8. CONNECTION TYPE
      • Select "PPP"
      • Click "Next"
    9. LOGON PROCEDURE
      • Select "I don't need to type anything when logging on"
    10. IP ADDRESS
      • Select "My online service provider automatically
        provides me one."
    11. DNS SERVER ADDRESSES
      • Always use the following
        • 208.201.152.2
        • 208.201.152.3

      Click "Next"

    12. Dial-Up Connection Name
      • Type "SurfnetUSA"
      • Click "Next"
    13. SETUP YOUR INTERNET MAIL ACCOUNT
      • Select "Yes"
      • Click "Next"
    14. INTERNET MAIL ACCOUNT
      • Select "Create a new Internet Mail Account"
      • Click "Next"
    15. YOUR NAME
      • Type your Real Name
      • Click "Next"
    16. INTERNET EMAIL ADDRESS
      • Type your EMail address
      • Click "Next"
    17. EMAIL SERVER NAMES
      • My Internet Mail Server is a "POP3" server
      • Incoming Mail Server (pop3): mail.surfnetusa.com
      • Outgoing Mail Server (smtp): mail.surfnetusa.com
      • Click "Next"
    18. INTERNET MAIL LOG ON
      • Select "Log on Using"
      • POP Account Name= "your account name"
      • Password= "your password"
      • Click "Next"
    19. FRIENDLY NAME
      • Type "SurfnetUSA"
      • Click "Next"
    20. SET UP YOUR INTERNET NEWS ACCOUNT
      • Select "Yes"
      • Click "Next"
    21. INTERNET NEWS ACCOUNT
      • Select "Create a new internet news account"
      • Click "Next"
    22. YOUR NAME
      • Display name should either be your Real Name or a Nick Name
      • Click "Next"
    23. INTERNET NEWS E-MAIL ADDRESS
      • Enter your "reply-to" address (your email address)
      • Click "Next"
    24. INTERNET NEWS SERVER NAME
      • news server name "news.surfnetusa.com"
      • Leave "My news server requires me to log on" BLANK
      • Click "Next"
    25. FRIENDLY NAME
      • Type "SurfnetUSA News"
      • Click "Next"
    26. SET UP YOUR INTERNET DIRECTORY SERVICE
      • Select "NO"
      • Click "Next"
    27. YOU'RE FINISHED!!
      • Click "Finish"
