E-LITERACY SYLLABUS
Electronic Literacy (E-Literacy) is a one-semester required freshman course.* The E-Literacy lab is in Room 202.
 
KEYBOARDING
Touch keyboard with beginning touch-typing skill
 
MICROSOFT WORD
Save & close a file; Open a Word file & save it with a new name
Enter text in a document; Edit a document
Use spelling and grammar checker
View a document in print view; Print a file
Change font type and size; Change font style; Change alignment
Change margin settings; Set tabs, Use ruler and indents
Create a table; Place borders around text
Insert Word Art; Add Clip Art
Use headers & footers; Insert footnotes
 
INTERNET SEARCH & RETRIEVAL
Search and retrieve information from Internet using search engines
 
MICROSOFT EXCEL
Enter numbers and labels; Change column width & row height
Use formulas; Use statistical functions; Edit a worksheet
Change alignment & number format; Change font type and font style
Add borders; Sort rows; Filter data
Preview and print a worksheet
 
MICROSOFT POWERPOINT
Create a presentation & work with PowerPoint templates
Navigate & edit a presentation by working with PowerPoint views
Format text; Use the drawing toolbar
Add text boxes and work with stacked objects
Design a presentation, change colors
Use Clip Art and other types of pictures
Set preset timing and transitions; Set animation effects
Create speaker’s notes and printed materials
 
FINAL TRAVEL PROJECT
Students will team up in pairs to research an area to travel. They will make all their virtual arrangements online; prepare an itinerary in Word and a budget with a chart in Excel. If time permits, prepare a PowerPoint presentation of their project.
